The tribal inheritance is expanded to include a specific group of cities and their surrounding courtyards [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. In total, four distinct cities make up this addition. While the names Ain and Rimmon appear together and might seem to identify a single location, they represent two completely separate towns [מצודת דוד]. Together with Ether and Ashan, they complete the group of four.
A parallel historical account found in the Book of Chronicles reveals a few differences regarding these locations. In that later record, the city of Ether is called Etam. Furthermore, the Chronicles account lists a fifth city, Teben, which does not appear in the original division. This is simply because the fifth city was built at a later stage and did not exist when the land was first distributed [מלבי״ם].
