נחמיה, פרק ט׳, פסוק י״א

After God heard the desperate cries of the Israelites at the Red Sea, His intervention was driven by two distinct purposes: securing the survival of the Israelites and destroying their oppressors [מלבי״ם]. To accomplish the rescue, He divided the waters in two [מצודת ציון], creating a secure path for the Israelites to cross through safely.

Once the rescue was complete, the focus shifted to punishing the pursuers. God cast the Egyptians downward into the deep depths of the sea [מצודת ציון, מצודת דוד]. The waters they drowned in were fiercely strong and rushing [מצודת ציון]. Yet, despite the sheer force and violent currents of the sea, the enemies were not swept away or kept afloat. Instead, they plummeted swiftly to the ocean floor, sinking straight down with the heavy weight of a stone [מצודת דוד].
