Gaining true wisdom is not merely a product of human intellect, but a deep process intertwined with divine grace. God acts as an endless spring of living water, offering wisdom continuously and in great abundance. Any shortage of this wisdom does not come from God, but rather depends entirely on a person's willingness to receive it [רלב״ג, עמנואל הרומי]. The very fact that this wisdom flows directly from God highlights its immense value. This extraordinary worth is the primary reason why a person is required to work so hard to acquire it [רש״י].

There is a delicate balance between human effort and the divine gift of intellect. From birth, God provides a person with natural preparation, granting them an open heart and the mental skills needed to observe and understand the world. However, the ultimate prize of wisdom is never guaranteed from the start. Instead, it is given as a gift only to those who truly deserve it. A person must put in the effort, deeply desire it, and use their free will to channel their mind toward study and proper action [אלשיך, אמרי דעת].

The intimate delivery of this wisdom implies a great closeness and special affection from God [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. It is as if God reveals the hidden mysteries of the world to a person face to face [מצודת דוד]. While ordinary human knowledge can often be figured out through independent logic and reasoning, divine wisdom operates differently. It cannot simply be deduced; it requires direct reception and a clear tradition passed down from God Himself [עמנואל הרומי].

When someone searches for this wisdom with intense dedication, they can reach spiritual heights that go far beyond standard learning. Ordinary human knowledge is usually acquired through exhausting trial and error, leaving it constantly open to mistakes. In sharp contrast, the knowledge and understanding that God grants to those who work for it arrive as sudden, absolute truths. This divine insight is completely pure and entirely free from any doubt or error [מלבי״ם].
