While both offer instruction [מצודת ציון], they serve different roles in a person's development. One perspective suggests that a teacher points out the right path once, offering initial direction. In contrast, an instructor invests significant time, repeating the lessons and explaining the deep logical reasoning behind them [מלבי״ם]. Another approach views this dynamic as an active rescue operation. Teachers issue vital warnings about the dangers of chasing harmful desires or corrupt ideas, while instructors provide the practical steps needed to break free from those traps and escape the danger [אלשיך].

The failure to heed these guides was not a matter of physical deafness, but rather a willful, stubborn refusal. It was an absolute rejection of the demand to distance oneself from destructive desires, leading the person to act as though the guidance was never spoken at all [רלב״ג, עמנואל הרומי].
