The awe that the nations of the world will ultimately feel toward God stems directly from the future restoration of Jerusalem. The profound reaction of the global community occurs precisely when, and because, God restores the city [ביאור שטיינזלץ, רד״ק, אבן עזרא]. Although the act of rebuilding is sometimes described as a past event, it points toward a clear future reality [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. When the nations witness God establishing the city and making His presence known within it, it will awaken a deep and overwhelming reverence among them [מצודת דוד, רד״ק].

This future revelation represents a dramatic shift from a state of concealment to absolute visibility. Even during the darkest times of destruction, the Divine Presence never actually departed from the Western Wall. Instead, God remained hidden, as the ruined state of the city did not reflect His honor. With the rebuilding of Zion, this period of hiding comes to an end. God will once again reveal Himself to the eyes of all in His complete splendor and glory [אלשיך].
