תהלים, פרק ק״ה, פסוק כ״א

Psalms 105:21Sefaria

שָׂמ֣וֹ אָד֣וֹן לְבֵית֑וֹ וּ֝מֹשֵׁ֗ל בְּכׇל־קִנְיָנֽוֹ׃

Joseph experienced a sudden and dramatic reversal of fate, transitioning instantly from a life of slavery to a position of absolute control. It was Pharaoh himself who appointed Joseph to this high office [מצודת דוד]. Earning the title of master stands in direct contrast to his previous reality. A man who was sold as a slave and carried a negative reputation was transformed into a powerful leader against all expectations [אבן עזרא, אלשיך].

His rise to greatness did not happen in gradual stages. He was not first given a lower role managing the general public before working his way up to the royal palace. Instead, he was immediately granted the highest possible status directly inside the king's own home [אלשיך]. This appointment to oversee the household represents the first of three consecutive levels of elevation granted by Pharaoh, mirroring the declaration in the Torah that Joseph would be placed in charge of the king's house [מלבי״ם, מאירי].

Through this new role, Joseph was given supreme authority. He became the sole ruler and manager, taking complete responsibility for the entirety of Pharaoh's household and all of his property [מצודת דוד, אלשיך].
