Psalms 105:3Sefaria

True spiritual connection is not merely a private experience; it is a profound source of inner strength meant to radiate outward. Believers are called to actively take pride and glory in their relationship with God [רש״י, מצודת דוד, מאירי]. This sense of pride stems from the deep recognition of having such a mighty protector [רש״י] and from reflecting on God’s greatness and His actions in the world [ביאור שטיינזלץ, מצודת דוד]. God's holiness represents a miraculous way of guiding the world that goes beyond the laws of nature. When people act with holiness, they become a reflection of God's holy name, which in turn becomes a source of honor for them [מלבי״ם]. However, this pride only lasts when a person humbly acknowledges that God is the true source of their honor [מאירי].

The primary approach among commentators views this glorious connection as a unique privilege of the people of Israel, elevating them because they carry God's name [רד״ק, אלשיך]. At the same time, God's presence is clearly recognizable outside of Israel through His actions across the entire world [אבן עזרא]. While expressing public pride in one's spiritual standing might easily be mistaken for arrogance, it actually serves a vital educational purpose. When righteous individuals openly celebrate their spiritual lives and songs, they inspire others. Hearing these praises brings joy and motivation to those who are just beginning their spiritual journey, encouraging these new seekers in their service of God [אלשיך, מצודת דוד, אבן עזרא].

The joy of seeking God is universal, open to any person from any nation who genuinely desires closeness to Him [רד״ק]. Remarkably, this joy remains present even during times of hardship or when God seems hidden, sustained by a deep trust in future redemption [אלשיך]. What makes this happiness truly unique is the very nature of the spiritual quest. In ordinary life, a person searching for something only finds happiness once the goal is reached. Yet, for those seeking God, the joy is found in the search itself. Because God is infinite and can never be entirely understood, the ongoing pursuit becomes the ultimate purpose. The comforting knowledge that God is always present and actively guiding those who look for Him transforms the continuous spiritual journey into a wellspring of constant joy, completely independent of ever reaching a final destination [מלבי״ם].
