תהלים, פרק קמ״ז, פסוק י״ד

Psalms 147:14Sefaria

הַשָּׂם־גְּבוּלֵ֥ךְ שָׁל֑וֹם חֵ֥לֶב חִ֝טִּ֗ים יַשְׂבִּיעֵֽךְ׃

Complete blessing for both the individual and the nation relies on a seamless bond between absolute security and material abundance. When the threat of war is removed, economic growth becomes possible, and when basic needs are generously met, true calm can take root. The promise of secure borders is understood primarily as physical protection from external threats. The perimeters of the land and the city will be completely safe, ensuring that no war will break out and no enemies will breach the gates [רד״ק, מצודת דוד, מלבי״ם, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Beyond this political security, this peace also carries a deeper spiritual and existential meaning. It represents total freedom from subjugation to other nations, the removal of impure forces, and even liberation from the Angel of Death. In this view, genuine peace is the perfect harmony and connection between the body and the soul [אלשיך].

Flowing directly from this state of peace is a second blessing, ensuring that the people are satisfied with the absolute best, richest, and highest quality of the harvest [רש״י, רד״ק, מצודת ציון, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. The primary approach among commentators is that this refers to massive agricultural abundance that will safely sustain the nation [אבן עזרא], coupled with the assurance that no enemy will ever come to steal the crops [מצודת דוד]. Alternatively, this abundance is seen as a miraculous vision of the future, where the land of Israel will naturally produce perfect, ready-made baked goods of pure flour, entirely free of waste or husks. Such a reality would reverse the ancient curse that forces humanity to toil for its survival, allowing people to enjoy the land's yield without the exhausting labor of harvesting, grinding, and baking [אלשיך].

The close relationship between peace and wheat is highly intentional, revealing a profound psychological insight into family life. Peace and tranquility within a home depend heavily on economic stability and the availability of food. The moment the food supply runs dry and scarcity is felt, arguments and conflict immediately enter the house. For this reason, wheat serves as the ultimate symbol of peace itself, to the point that dreaming of wheat is considered a clear sign that a person will experience peace [תורה תמימה].
