Psalms 27:3Sefaria

In times of escalating danger, the true strength of inner trust is revealed against a threatening reality. Even as a situation moves from an enemy gathering its forces to the actual outbreak of war, a person can maintain total peace of mind. David faces the terrifying prospect of a massive army laying siege around him while he is left with only a small handful of men. Despite this overwhelming threat, he remains completely unafraid This profound courage stems from the fact that both his heart and his mind rely absolutely on God [רד״ק].

Taking a unique perspective, this absence of terror serves as a personal spiritual sign. Since fear is often the result of sin, the very fact that he feels no dread at the sight of the enemy camp proves to him that he carries no guilt. It is this clear conscience and recognition of his own innocence that grants him the absolute certainty of victory when the battle finally breaks out [אלשיך].

As the threat turns into active warfare, David declares his continued trust, though commentators offer different views on the exact foundation of this confidence. The primary approach among commentators is that his certainty looks back to an earlier truth: his trust is built entirely on the knowledge that God is his light, his salvation, and the ultimate strength of his life

Conversely, another perspective suggests that his confidence looks forward to his ultimate ambition. In this view, his trust does not come from a simple desire for physical survival, but from a singular focus on sitting in the house of God. Defeating the enemy is not the goal itself, but merely a necessary step that allows him to pursue his true spiritual calling. Because he knows his desire is pure, he is filled with unwavering trust
