תהלים, פרק ע״ה, פסוק י׳

Psalms 75:10Sefaria

וַ֭אֲנִי אַגִּ֣יד לְעֹלָ֑ם אֲ֝זַמְּרָ֗ה לֵאלֹהֵ֥י יַעֲקֹֽב׃

A profound commitment exists to praise God and bear witness to His actions in the world. It is a constant pledge to spread a divine message of justice, salvation, and morality to all humanity. Commentators offer varying perspectives on the identity of the voice making this pledge. One approach suggests it is the psalmist himself, taking on the responsibility to share his prophecy so that people may learn morality and accept correction [אבן עזרא]. Alternatively, the speaker represents the entire nation of Israel. The nation declares its intent to recount God's wonders and His vengeance upon their enemies, expressing gratitude to Him for never abandoning His people during their exile [רד״ק, מאירי]. A more poetic interpretation shifts the focus away from a human speaker to the concept of uprightness itself. Just as people traditionally sing songs of praise over a cup of wine, the trait of uprightness is personified as singing and offering blessings over the cup held in God's hand, announcing His might and the splendor of His kingdom to all people [מלבי״ם].

The core of this announcement revolves around publicizing God's praise [ביאור שטיינזלץ], highlighting His righteousness toward humanity [מצודת דוד], and declaring His immense power [רש״י]. Beyond simply describing divine actions, the declaration carries a deep educational purpose. The speaker resolves to proclaim the truth and do what is right, even if there is a risk that reckless individuals might ignore the warning and continue chasing after the material world. At the same time, the speaker internalizes this moral lesson, singing to God for granting the heart the ability to be content with very little, finding true satisfaction in basic life necessities like bread and clothing [אלשיך].

This dedication is not temporary; it is an eternal promise. The permanence of this vow is understood as a commitment of unbroken continuity from this moment onward [רש״י], or as a dedication that spans the entirety of the speaker's life [אבן עזרא]. When viewed through the national lens of Israel, this enduring promise reflects a state of complete and continuous redemption, marking a final salvation without the interruption of any future exiles [מאירי].
