A person's ability to stand in prayer rests on the absolute certainty that God's mercy guarantees a response. When a plea for help goes unanswered, it usually stems from one of three obstacles. The one giving may not want to help, the one receiving might be unworthy because of their actions, or the strict rules of justice simply do not allow for unearned gifts. However, God's nature completely removes all three of these barriers [מלבי״ם].
First, God possesses an internal nature that desires to do good. While some understand this goodness as being focused specifically on righteous people [אבן עזרא], a broader perspective maintains that God directs His goodness toward all of creation [רד״ק]. This eliminates the possibility that the Creator is unwilling to help. Second, a person might fear they are unworthy of receiving goodness because of their past mistakes. Yet, God is inherently forgiving and pardons those who fail [רד״ק, אבן עזרא, ביאור שטיינזלץ, מאירי]. Third, God operates with abundant kindness. He does not distribute His blessings based strictly on the scales of justice or a careful calculation of a person's deeds. Instead, He acts with immense generosity that does not depend on the individual actually earning the reward [מלבי״ם].
This overflowing kindness is available to anyone who reaches out to Him, perfectly continuing the idea that a person should cry out to God continuously [אבן עזרא]. Reaching out to God during difficult times [מאירי] creates a foundation for profound hope. A person might worry that their efforts to repent are barely enough to earn basic forgiveness. However, they can confidently rely on God to provide kindness far beyond what they deserve. This promise ensures that God responds to those who pray, not only regarding everyday struggles but also concerning deep spiritual desires. This includes requests to achieve true joy for the soul in the World to Come, to depart from this world peacefully and mercifully, and to receive blessings that nourish both the body and the soul [אלשיך].
