True wisdom requires a person to cultivate patience and avoid hasty reactions, especially when facing situations that go against their desires [תעלומות חכמה, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. The primary approach among commentators is that one must carefully guard against angering easily or rushing to display rage outwardly. Even though an emotional outburst might offer a brief sense of release and immediate satisfaction, a wise individual chooses silence during moments of frustration to preserve their clear judgment [מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ].

Giving in to quick, unrestrained anger is the defining characteristic of a fool. Those who lack wisdom fail to realize that public displays of rage only bring them personal shame and disgrace from the people around them [מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ].

Ultimately, losing one's temper serves no practical purpose and only damages the person themselves. It is compared to someone spitting upward, only to have it fall right back onto their own face. An easily angered individual becomes unpleasant to be around, which naturally drives away friends and study partners. The loneliness forced upon them by their anger leads to further foolishness, clouding their understanding and causing them to forget the knowledge they have already acquired [תורה תמימה].
