The call for loyalty and obedience grows directly out of the relationship between God and His people. His divine authority serves as the foundation for the duty to fulfill the commandments. The reminder of God's position over the nation acts as the very reason for their obligation. Following these laws involves much more than outward, physical actions. The instruction to keep God's rules is actually a deeply internal requirement. It means guarding these values within the heart and mind. Only after this genuine, internal awareness takes root does the practical duty to actively carry out the commandments follow [מצודת דוד].
