The true nature of God's leadership over His people becomes clear through the way He acts toward them. The realization of His identity is a self-evident truth [רד״ק]. This deep understanding comes from seeing that God is entirely faithful to keep His word and fulfill His promises [מצודת דוד].
God chooses to do good for the Israelites to protect the honor of His own name [מצודת דוד]. He guides them with kindness rather than mirroring their own behavior. Even though the Israelites have bad ways and corrupt actions that deserve punishment, God does not give them the penalty they have actually earned. Instead of treating them as their actions dictate, He chooses to act purely for the sake of His name [מצודת דוד].
