Ezekiel 20:33Sefaria

The relationship between God and the Israelites is an eternal bond that cannot be severed, even if the people themselves wish to walk away. God's rule over the nation is absolute and completely independent of their consent. In a solemn oath, God swears that He will maintain His kingship over the people, establishing His authority over them against their will

When open miracles and the obvious divine guidance that bring blessing fade, God's control does not disappear. Instead, His rule continues through different methods. He will use severe hardships and heavy punishments to compel the nation to remain under His reign and devoted to His service [מלבי״ם]. This divine coercion is applied forcefully, bending the will of the people to ensure they continue to serve Him [מצודת דוד].

This intense pressure will also play a crucial role at the End of Days. Through times of great distress, God will extract the Israelites from neighboring nations and gather them from their scattered communities in distant lands [מלבי״ם]. At the same time, this forceful kingship will be accompanied by intense divine anger. This wrath serves a specific purpose: to completely eradicate the sinners and rebels from within the nation [רד״ק].
