A prophecy of doom is directed at the city of Sidon, declaring a divine war against it. Through severe punishments and the ultimate destruction of the city, divine justice will be revealed to the world, bringing honor and sanctification to God.

While honor might simply involve recognizing God as a supreme power, sanctification represents a deeper, more absolute awareness [מלבי״ם]. This profound holiness will become clear to everyone when they witness the just retribution unfold and see such a massive city reduced to a complete wasteland [מצודת דוד, שטיינזלץ].
