One perspective focuses on the king's own internal state, noting that he is now consumed by overwhelming fear and panic [מצודת דוד, מצודת ציון]. Another approach shifts the focus to the fear the king used to impose on others. Previously, he projected an image of a terrifying creature who seemed to exist far above ordinary human limits. Ultimately, this downfall represents a total and permanent loss. The king will disappear entirely, and he will never be able to return to his former status and power [מצודת דוד, מצודת ציון].
