Ezekiel 37:22Sefaria

For centuries, the history of the Israelites was marked by painful disconnection, instability, and even outright civil war between the Kingdom of Judah and the Kingdom of Israel. The prophetic vision looks forward to a time when the people will return to their homeland and finally reunite into a single, cohesive political entity [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. This future reality promises the absolute end of the historical division that split the nation into two separate peoples, Judah on one side and the Ten Tribes on the other The original fracture occurred because the Ten Tribes engaged in idol worship and abandoned the Temple, but in the days to come, the entire nation will worship God together in complete harmony [מלבי״ם].

This concept of unity extends far beyond political borders, reaching deep into the social and spiritual fabric of the nation. Not only will the two rival kingdoms merge, but the internal social classes among the people, such as Priests, Levites, and ordinary Israelites, will blend into one equal family. The entire nation will be elevated to the spiritual status of a kingdom of priests, forging a flawless internal unity [אהבת יהונתן].

To guide this reunited nation, a single leader will be established for everyone. This shared leadership will take place both during the era of the Messiah son of Joseph and later under the Messiah son of David, with the entire populace willingly following a common guide [מלבי״ם]. History frequently shows that individuals appear worthy of leadership before they assume power, but once they are granted authority, their hidden flaws surface and they fail to lead justly. The future ruler, however, will possess genuine moral character. Even after ascending to the throne and tasting power, he will remain completely honest, upright, and worthy of his position [צוארי שלל].

The prophetic vision emphasizes the absolute permanence of this promise, ensuring that the nation will never fracture again. This restored unity is not destined to be a temporary truce or a passing phase, but rather a permanent, unbreakable bond that will endure forever
