Ezekiel 37:7Sefaria

A profound moment of absolute faith sets a miraculous event into motion. A prophet stands in a desolate valley, speaking words of life into a landscape of death, triggering a physical revival that defies all laws of nature. He acts out of complete obedience to God, delivering the prophecy even though reviving dry bones seems naturally impossible [אברבנאל]. He voices the divine message, perhaps with a loud cry or through another characteristic prophetic delivery [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

Immediately after he finishes speaking, a dramatic physical reaction sweeps through the valley. A sudden noise and an intense shaking fill the air. Commentators offer different perspectives on the source of this sound. One approach explains that the noise comes from a sudden gust of wind, as the spirit of life begins to pulse and flow into the valley Conversely, another perspective suggests that the loud noise and violent trembling are the direct result of the bones themselves moving, clapping, and rattling against one another This shaking is understood as a literal, physical swaying and movement of the remains [מצודות].

Following this initial disturbance, an extraordinary process of assembly begins. Bones that have lain scattered and separated across the valley for a long time, whether from natural death or physical injury, suddenly start to jump and shift This movement is entirely deliberate. Rather than a random clashing of parts, every single bone finds its exact path back to the specific bone it was attached to during the person's life. Through this precise coordination, complete bodies are perfectly reconstructed in their correct anatomical order, from the head down through the rest of the limbs

As this miraculous reconstruction unfolds, the very nature of the remains transforms. Initially, while scattered across the ground, they exist merely as weak, individual fragments. However, as they draw closer and connect, they merge to form the large, central structures of the human skeleton, such as the spine and the skull, becoming whole and unified once again [מלבי״ם].
