Ezekiel 37:15Sefaria

Following the dramatic vision of the dry bones, a new prophetic message emerges to complete the picture of national resurrection. Bringing a nation back to life is only the first step; ensuring the people survive and thrive without falling back into exile requires a permanent shift in how they live. The ultimate goal is to establish proper spiritual and royal leadership that will guide the nation to observe God's commandments, gather the exiles, and completely unite the divided kingdoms under the eternal rule of the house of David [מלבי״ם, אברבנאל].

God directs this message to the prophet in a highly personal manner, an approach that carries profound spiritual significance. Ezekiel is understood to possess the reincarnated soul of Cain, the son of the first man, which explains why he is consistently addressed as "son of man" throughout his prophecies. Cain's grave failure was murdering his brother Abel out of pure jealousy. Therefore, this specific prophecy, which focuses entirely on uprooting baseless hatred, healing the jealousy between the tribes, and creating lasting peace, serves as a personal spiritual correction for the prophet's own soul

Historically, the fracture within the Israelite nation and the ultimate destruction of the Temple were deeply rooted in this same baseless hatred and jealousy. This destructive envy mirrors the jealousy of the serpent in the Garden of Eden, which originally led to the sin of the Tree of Knowledge. To repair this ancient damage, the prophet is instructed to perform a physical action with pieces of wood. These pieces carry heavy symbolic weight: one represents the Tree of Knowledge, associated with Joseph, who suffered from his brothers' jealousy, while the other represents the Tree of Life, associated with Judah and the eternal Davidic monarchy. Bringing these pieces of wood together signifies the healing of that original sin of jealousy and the reunification of the tribes into a single, cohesive nation

The necessity of performing a physical action to convey this message rests on a fundamental rule of prophecy. Generally, a divine promise for a positive outcome can be delayed or even remain unfulfilled if the people sin. However, when a prophet anchors his words with a tangible, physical act, the promise becomes absolute. It is locked into reality and will come to pass regardless of the people's future actions. By instructing the prophet to physically join the pieces of wood, God guarantees that this promise of redemption and absolute unity will undoubtedly be fulfilled
