Ezekiel 37:14Sefaria

וְנָתַתִּ֨י רוּחִ֤י בָכֶם֙ וִחְיִיתֶ֔ם וְהִנַּחְתִּ֥י אֶתְכֶ֖ם עַל־אַדְמַתְכֶ֑ם וִידַעְתֶּ֞ם כִּֽי־אֲנִ֧י יְהֹוָ֛ה דִּבַּ֥רְתִּי וְעָשִׂ֖יתִי נְאֻם־יְהֹוָֽה׃ {פ}

The ultimate divine promise to a broken nation culminates in a vision of profound renewal, lasting peace in the land of Israel, and a complete recognition of God's absolute reliability. God pledges to place a new spirit within the people. The primary approach is that God will breathe a renewed spirit of life into the nation, ensuring their ongoing survival [מצודת דוד]. Alternatively, since physical revival is established earlier in the prophecy, this divine spirit can be understood as a profound intellectual awakening. God will grant the people deep knowledge and understanding, effectively preventing them from sinning in the future. In this context, the promise of life implies a blessing of significant longevity [רד״ק].

Following this internal transformation, God promises to return the people to their own soil. This represents a state of profound tranquility and rest [מצודת ציון], ensuring they dwell peacefully in their land [מצודת דוד]. This settlement carries an eternal guarantee: once the nation is restored to their land in this state of peace, they will never face exile again [רד״ק].

The culmination of these events leads to a universal realization that God is entirely faithful to His word and fulfills all of His promises [מצודת דוד]. The miraculous revival of the dead during the time of Ezekiel acts as a powerful blueprint for the future. It serves as a definitive sign pointing toward the ultimate resurrection of the dead or the future redemption of the entire nation. Even when the people appear entirely hopeless, resembling scattered, dry bones with no natural possibility of revival, the vision guarantees that God is the one who made the promise, and He is the one who will bring it to life [מלבי״ם].
