The total dedicated area measures twenty-five thousand by twenty-five thousand reeds [רש"י]. This expansive section is not a single, uniform tract, but rather a combination of distinct zones. It encompasses the holy sections designated for the priests and the Levites, alongside the area reserved for the city itself [מצודת דוד, רד"ק].

The primary approach among commentators is that the overall dimensions of this dedicated land create a perfect square. However, a different perspective suggests a mathematical relationship within the land's division. According to this view, the section set aside for the city, which measures five thousand, represents exactly one quarter of the remaining twenty-thousand unit strip [מלבי"ם].

The holy portion explicitly refers to the tracts belonging to the priests and Levites [רש"י, מצודת דוד]. This sacred space is intricately linked with the city's property. Although the city's section is a secular area [שטיינזלץ], it is joined together with the holy portions [מצודת ציון, רד"ק, שטיינזלץ]. Ultimately, these distinct sacred and secular domains complement one another, uniting to complete the full calculation of the square area.
