The long-awaited distribution of the future land of Israel finally reaches its conclusion, bringing with it significant changes from historical times. The promised territory is not the exact same space the Israelites occupied previously. Instead, the borders of the land will expand and grow far beyond their original limits [מלבי״ם]. This newly enlarged territory is the specific inheritance that will be bequeathed and passed down to the tribes of Israel [מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ].

Just as the physical boundaries of the land will be transformed, the actual process of distributing the territory will also undergo a major shift. A specific system of division will be established to allocate the property among the tribes [מצודת דוד, מצודת ציון, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Much like the expanded geography of the land itself, this new method of distributing the portions will be entirely different from how the territory was apportioned in the past [מלבי״ם].
