The time has come for a tense return journey to Egypt, and Jacob sends his sons on their way with final instructions. He now agrees to place Benjamin into their care, allowing his sons to take their brother down with them [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

To prepare them for the encounter, Jacob actively tries to build their confidence. He urges them to set out on their return trip without fear. This encouragement comes from his understanding that the gift they are carrying will certainly help calm the Egyptian ruler and work to their advantage [ספורנו].
