II Chronicles 26:22Sefaria

A king's legacy is rarely simple, and the summary of a monarch's reign often captures the full span of his choices, both the noble and the flawed. When concluding the record of the king of Judah, the historical account carefully separates his life into distinct eras. The early years of his leadership were marked by positive choices and right actions. However, his later period stood in stark contrast, defined by deeds that were negative and improper. The official record captures this complete picture, refusing to ignore the failures of his later years while acknowledging the successes of his beginning.

The task of documenting these historical events fell to the prophet Isaiah. While the biblical book that bears Isaiah's name notes that he was active during this era, it does not actually contain the detailed history of the king's life. Because of this missing information, it is understood that the prophet authored a separate historical text detailing the king's reign. This specific historical account, though referenced as the official record, has been lost over time and did not survive to the present day.
