King Uzziah’s reign was marked by exceptional order and thoroughness across all areas of his kingdom, from agriculture and construction to military fortifications. Standing in sharp contrast to the sometimes reckless actions of his predecessor, Amaziah, Uzziah built a highly organized military system and took responsibility for fully equipping his soldiers [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

Historically, soldiers might only go to war on rare occasions and were expected to bring their own personal weapons. Uzziah changed this dynamic by maintaining a permanent standing army that was always on alert. Because of this constant state of readiness, the state treasury directly funded and supplied all their military gear [מלבי״ם].

The royal armory provided a wide array of protective and offensive equipment. Soldiers were issued iron helmets to shield their heads from sword strikes, alongside iron armor worn as protective garments during combat [מצודת ציון]. In addition to this defensive gear and their bows, the king equipped his forces for slinging stones. Rather than simply gathering the stones themselves, he ensured his troops had the proper tools and slinging devices required to launch them with maximum efficiency [מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ].
