Fleeing from his own home, a king faces the ultimate test of faith and surrender. As David escapes, he expresses absolute submission to the will of God, realizing that taking the Ark of the Covenant with him on his wanderings serves no true purpose. He places his fate, and any hope of eventually returning home, entirely in the hands of a divine decision [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

This reliance on God's direction does not mean David expects an explicit, spoken command. Instead, he understands that God's message will reveal itself naturally through the way He shapes future events [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Should unfolding reality prove that God no longer desires him from this moment onward [מצודת דוד], David accepts that he will not return home.

His response to such a possibility is one of absolute peace. The primary approach among commentators is that David's stance reflects total readiness and acceptance. He declares himself fully prepared to receive God's judgment and decrees with love, surrendering his life completely so that God may do exactly what is good in His eyes.
