II Samuel 15:4Sefaria

Absalom strategically positions himself not as a man hungry for power, but as a humble seeker of justice who deeply cares for the common citizen. He speaks to the people with profound empathy, acting as a supportive ally who currently lacks the authority to help them, yet stands firmly by their side [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. He declares that his ultimate desire is not the royal crown, but simply the role of a judge so he can eradicate societal wrongs. To win their trust, he promises to handle their cases personally, completely eliminating the need for any mediators [מלבי״ם].

When addressing the conflicts the people face, a distinction is made between the actual arguments of the litigants and the final, truthful verdict. Absalom directs his appeal to those who genuinely have right on their side, assuring them that their valid claims will result in a proper and just decision [מלבי״ם]. He guarantees a fair and truthful outcome for anyone who seeks his help This absolute justice would be achieved because he promises to dedicate careful attention to deeply understanding the intricate details of every single case [מצודת דוד].

Furthermore, his pledge of fairness carries an even deeper commitment. Absalom suggests that he would ensure true justice even if a citizen brought a lawsuit against him personally. By making such a bold claim, he assures the public that he would never show favoritism, not even to his own family or tribe [מלבי״ם].
