An introduction is made for a new group of appointed leaders, specifically focusing on the descendants of Kohath [ביאור שטיינזלץ, מלבי״ם, מצודת דוד]. Four distinct families from this lineage are identified: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel. This initial grouping sets the stage for a breakdown of their specific duties in the subsequent records.

As the roles are assigned, particular responsibilities are traced back to these families. For instance, from the family of Amram, a man named Shebuel is designated as the chief officer in charge of the treasuries [מלבי״ם]. Interestingly, while the family of Uzziel is included in the opening list, they do not receive a specific mention when the individual duties are outlined. It is likely that their responsibilities were merged, and they were simply counted alongside the descendants of Hebron [מצודת דוד].
