I Chronicles 9:28Sefaria

The daily operations of the Temple required meticulous organization, particularly regarding the sacred tools used for the services. Managing and transporting these holy items was a strict responsibility assigned to the Levites [רלב״ג], or more specifically, the gatekeepers among them [מצודת דוד]. The primary approach among commentators is that these tools were the service vessels utilized for regular Temple duties, such as basins for carrying blood, firepans, forks, and shovels meant for handling sacrifices and clearing ashes.

Because of the deep importance of these sacred items, they were subjected to careful inventory control. They were counted precisely and distributed only based on the exact needs of the daily work [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. There are different perspectives on exactly how this daily process was managed. One approach suggests that the appointed officials brought the tools from the storage chambers to the altar area, and later removed them from the altar to return them to the chambers [מצודת דוד]. Another perspective outlines the routine by explaining that in the morning, the officials took the tools out from the storage chamber for the daily work, and once the tasks were completed, they brought the items back to their designated spot. Throughout this entire cycle, a strict count was maintained, reflecting the serious duty of guarding and overseeing the Temple inventory [רלב״ג].
