In a moment of severe crisis, a powerful message of hope is delivered. Isaiah sends a prophecy to King Hezekiah that is framed as a direct address to the King of Assyria. However, its true purpose is to provide comfort and a sense of security to Hezekiah, entirely independent of whether Sennacherib ever actually hears the warning [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. God promises to step in as a shield, actively defending and protecting the city from harm [מצודת ציון, ביאור שטיינזלץ].

The impending defense and salvation of Jerusalem do not necessarily rely on the good deeds of its residents. Instead, the rescue is driven by higher, absolute motives. First, God acts for His own sake, ensuring that the honor of His name is upheld and preventing it from being disgraced in the eyes of the surrounding nations [מלבי״ם, מצודת דוד]. Second, the city will be spared in honor of the enduring covenant established with the royal house of David [מלבי״ם].

On a deeper spiritual level, there is a profound connection between the physical city and Divine leadership. The city itself parallels the Divine attribute of Kingship, meaning that its salvation is ultimately for the honor of the Divine Presence. King David is specifically mentioned in this context because he personally embodies this very aspect of the Divine Presence [חומת אנך].
