Jeremiah 10:12Sefaria

Continuing the theme of God as the living and eternal King, the prophet highlights His exclusive greatness as both the Creator and the active Sustainer of reality Rather than treating creation as a finished event from the distant past, the shaping of the world is presented as an ongoing process. This continuous state emphasizes that God constantly renews and maintains the physical universe at every moment [מלבי"ם].

The scope of creation and divine providence is mapped out across three distinct levels. First is the formation of the earth as an entire globe, driven by divine power [מלבי"ם]. This power represents the constant, unceasing force God embedded into the very fabric of nature. It is this continuous energy that keeps the planet suspended and stable in its place, much like the perpetual motion of the celestial spheres that surround it [רד"ק].

Following the initial formation of the physical globe, the focus shifts to the specific regions of the earth inhabited by humanity Here, God's wisdom is clearly visible. He intentionally prepared and established these areas with all the necessary resources to support life. By providing rivers, springs, fruit trees, and vegetation, His wisdom ensures the daily survival and flourishing of both people and animals [רד"ק, מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ].

Finally, attention turns upward to the heavens, which were stretched out and spread like a tent pitched for someone to rest beneath While human eyes only perceive the sky as a simple dome or a half-sphere resting above the earth, human understanding allows us to grasp what lies beyond our immediate senses. Through careful thought, we can comprehend the complete spherical structure of the heavens and their highly complex, continuous motion. This intricate cosmic design is the ultimate expression of profound divine understanding [רד"ק].
