Failing to understand the purpose of suffering and refusing to listen to warnings ultimately leads to a tragic end. The primary approach among commentators is that such individuals are cut off from the world, meeting their death by a fatal weapon or sword. While this is often understood as a literal physical death, it is also viewed symbolically as the strike of Satan [מלבי״ם] or the Angel of Death [אלשיך].

Beyond the physical end, their passing is defined by a deep spiritual ignorance. They die without realizing that their suffering was actually a test from God. Instead of accepting their hardships with love and turning away from their sins, they completely misunderstood God's ways and even spoke out against Him [מצודת דוד, מלבי״ם].

Another perspective suggests that this lack of understanding is a specific punishment inflicted at the exact moment of death. While other people often receive an elevated spiritual awareness in their final moments of life, these sinners depart from the world entirely deprived of that final spiritual clarity [אלשיך].
