איוב, פרק ל״ו, פסוק כ״ג

Job 36:23Sefaria

מִֽי־פָקַ֣ד עָלָ֣יו דַּרְכּ֑וֹ וּמִי־אָ֝מַ֗ר פָּעַ֥לְתָּ עַוְלָֽה׃

The governance of the world rests entirely in the hands of God, operating with absolute authority and free from any outside influence. No entity exists that can command Him, teach Him, or dictate the path He must take. His management of the universe is not bound by the predictable laws of nature or the movements of the stars. Instead, it is a unique and distinct path driven entirely by His supreme providence [מלבי״ם]. In guiding the world, His authority is absolute and unquestionable [מצודת ציון].

Beyond the inability to command God, there is also no room for human critique or supervision over His actions. It is impossible for anyone to examine His ways to determine if they are good, for no one has appointed Him as a subordinate. A mortal king relies on advisors who might correct him or point out his errors when he acts on his own. God, however, cannot be compared to any created being. No human can stand above Him to review His work as a master reviews a servant [רמב״ן]. Recognizing this vast difference requires a person to humbly submit before Him [מצודת דוד].

Because God is entirely beyond human command or review, it is equally impossible to accuse Him of acting improperly or committing an injustice. Every action He takes is rooted in strict fairness, honesty, and justice [מלבי״ם, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. This remains true even when a person's circumstances shift. If God changes how He treats someone, bringing hardship after a period of blessing, a person cannot claim that God was right before but is now acting unfairly. No one forced God to grant those initial blessings. Since the original goodness was given freely out of His own will, any subsequent change in His guidance cannot be considered an injustice [אלשיך].
