Job 36:3Sefaria

A person stepping forward to defend God's justice must draw upon deep and expansive wisdom. The speaker declares an intention to present profound arguments to justify God and testify to His absolute fairness, revealing both the source of this understanding and its ultimate purpose. The foundation of this defense rests entirely on the speaker's intellect and clarity of mind

The process of gathering this knowledge from a great distance is understood in both physical and conceptual ways. In a literal sense, it represents a public declaration. The speaker raises his voice to be heard far away, openly inviting anyone who wishes to challenge or respond to his claims However, the primary approach among commentators views this distance as something much deeper and more spiritual. It involves exploring hidden secrets that normally lie beyond human grasp, attempting to understand the unknown by analyzing what is already clear [רמב״ן]. This vast distance can also refer to God Himself, who is the ultimate, exalted cause of all things Furthermore, to successfully reach a suffering listener, the speaker must introduce ideas that are vastly different—or far removed—from the listener's current way of thinking [תקות אנוש].

Another perspective suggests an elevation of the mind, blending pure logic with the established proofs of the Torah [אלשיך]. A unique philosophical approach argues that this profound wisdom does not come from physical senses or earthly experiences gathered close by. Instead, it relies on absolute truths planted deeply in the soul while it was still in the upper spiritual realms, long before it descended into a physical body [מלבי״ם].

Ultimately, all of this vast knowledge is channeled toward a single goal: proving the righteousness of the Creator This final aim perfectly completes the initial claim about the source of human understanding. Because God is entirely just, it is impossible that He would embed false concepts into the human soul. Therefore, those pure, spiritual truths brought from a great distance are undeniably real, serving as a firm foundation to justify God and His actions in the world [מלבי״ם].
