The allocation of land on the eastern side of the Jordan River covered immense stretches of territory, extending to areas that were not yet under Israelite control. As the regional boundaries were drawn, spanning across Gilead, the entirety of Mount Hermon, and the Bashan region reaching as far as Salecah, the borders of Geshur and Maacah were also explicitly included in the map.
At the time of this division, the Israelites had not yet conquered Geshur and Maacah. Nevertheless, Moses did not hesitate to assign these lands. He divided the territory and incorporated these unconquered areas into the tribal inheritances ahead of time [ביאור שטיינזלץ].
