The complete collapse of a once-mighty city happens not just through external force, but through the internal breaking of its defenders' spirit. The warriors meant to protect the city experience a total loss of bravery, leaving them entirely helpless. They are likened to women who do not go out to battle, lacking the strength to defend their fortresses or hold back an invading army.

Because of this total weakness, the invasion happens with shocking speed and zero resistance. The conquest is so effortless that it appears as though the city gates have simply opened on their own to welcome the advancing enemy. The failure of the city's defenses is absolute. The heavy bars designed to lock and secure the gates are easily destroyed and broken through. The Chaldeans will capture the city of Nineveh with barely any effort [אברבנאל], moving through the defenses as quickly and easily as a fast-spreading fire burning away everything in its path.
