A woman of true capability does not limit her care to the private needs of her own home. Her initiative naturally expands outward, blending economic diligence with deep modesty and spiritual purpose. The primary approach among commentators is that she produces luxurious garments and complex belts well beyond what her own family requires. By trading these finely crafted items to merchants, she generates surplus wealth for her household.

Yet, this commerce is driven by deeper values rather than mere profit. One perspective suggests she intentionally sells these luxurious items because she recognizes that garments of pride and extravagance are inappropriate for a spiritually focused home. Such items are better suited for merchants, while the income from their sale sustains her household, allowing her husband to dedicate his time entirely to study without the burden of physical labor [אלשיך]. Another view sees her business ventures as a means to fund charitable giving. By earning money to distribute to the poor, she actively weaves her own spiritual garments for the World to Come [מלבי״ם].

On an allegorical level, this outward trade serves as a metaphor for the intellectual soul. The fine garments represent the good character traits and wisdom a person acquires. Sharing these items with others symbolizes the act of spreading wisdom, a process that ultimately enriches the teacher as much as the student [רש״י, מלבי״ם, עמנואל הרומי]. The belt represents the inner strength and discipline needed to restrain personal desires. Passing this belt outward can mean empowering others with the ability to control themselves. Alternatively, the merchant represents raw material desires.
