עֹז־וְהָדָ֥ר לְבוּשָׁ֑הּ וַ֝תִּשְׂחַ֗ק לְי֣וֹם אַחֲרֽוֹן׃

A person's true character is often revealed by how they face the unknown. For a woman of true capability and virtue, the future is not a source of anxiety, but a canvas for her inner strength and preparation. While some interpret her strength and beauty literally, suggesting she wears physical garments that are durable and visually striking [ביאור שטיינזלץ, מצודת דוד], the primary approach among commentators is that this attire is entirely metaphorical. She wraps herself in the inner strength born of wisdom, ensuring her actions are beautiful and free of any disgrace [אבן עזרא, עמנואל הרומי]. This quiet power allows her to overcome physical desires and walk faithfully in the ways of the Torah [רלב״ג]. Her spiritual garments are woven from profound merits, whether they are formed by the protective grace of her husband's Torah study and good deeds [אלשיך], or by her own personal education and righteous actions [מלבי״ם]. In fact, she views any boasting over mere physical beauty or superficial power as a source of shame, taking true pride solely in her capable actions and pleasant character [עמנואל הרומי].

Because she is clothed in such virtue, she looks toward the future with a sense of joy and absolute fearlessness. On a practical level, she does not worry about the struggles of old age or an unpredictable future. Having prepared diligently, she has no fear of sudden disaster, starvation, or financial ruin in her later years, knowing she has built a foundation of lasting wealth and enduring actions [אבן עזרא, ביאור שטיינזלץ, עמנואל הרומי]. Yet, the primary approach among commentators is that her fearlessness extends to the ultimate unknown: the day of death and divine judgment. Rather than living in dread, she spends her life with a joyful anticipation of that day, confident that she will depart the world with honor and a good name [רש״י, מצודת דוד].

For individuals of high spiritual standing, death is not a source of terror. Because their life's purpose is the perfection of the intellect, the end of physical life is simply a transition into true, eternal existence [רלב״ג]. She faces judgment without worry, secure in the knowledge that she will be spared [רש״י], and she actively looks forward to the reward and joy of the World to Come [אבן עזרא, עמנואל הרומי]. Her happiness is felt in the present moment as she anticipates reaping the fruits of her labor and witnessing the lasting impact she has had on the people she guided and taught [אלשיך, מלבי״ם]. On a deeper, allegorical level, this entire portrait represents the human soul. A pure soul clothes itself in noble traits of strength and beauty, laughing at the prospect of death. Free from the fear of punishment, the soul eagerly awaits its passage into the eternal light of life [עמנואל הרומי].
