Ezekiel 27:7Sefaria

The vast wealth and international commercial power of the ancient city of Tyre takes the shape of a magnificent luxury ship built from the world's most prestigious materials. This incredible splendor does not come from the city's own natural resources. Instead, it is the result of a massive trade network that gathers the very best goods from distant nations and islands [מלבי״ם].

The upper parts of this great ship were crafted from thick, high-quality linen [מצודת ציון, שטיינזלץ] decorated with spectacular embroidered designs [רש״י]. This fine fabric was imported directly from Egypt, a nation famous for producing the absolute best linen available The primary approach among commentators is that this grand fabric functioned as the main sail, spread wide across the mast to catch the wind and drive the ship forward However, another perspective suggests that this material was actually hoisted high on a pole to serve as a flag and a symbol of national pride [רש״י, שטיינזלץ]. Whichever its exact function, the fact that a ship would use such expensive, intricately embroidered fabric for everyday practical purposes clearly shows the extraordinary greatness and luxury of Tyre [רד״ק, אברבנאל].

High above the ship's deck, a protective cover was spread. Most commentators agree that this was a large canopy or tent designed to give the crew shade and shelter from the harsh sun, heat, and heavy rain A different view suggests this might instead refer to the lavish uniforms worn by the crew members themselves [רד״ק]. This covering was far from ordinary, made from sheets dyed in highly valued and expensive shades of blue and purple [מצודת ציון]. These luxurious fabrics were imported from the islands of Elisha, which early traditions identify as the region of Italy [רד״ק, אברבנאל]. Using such rich, colorful materials just to create a basic shelter or uniform was a deliberate choice, meant to add stunning beauty to the ship and highlight the unmatched superiority of Tyre's empire [רד״ק].
