יחזקאל, פרק ל״ט, פסוק א׳

Ezekiel 39:1Sefaria

The prophetic vision sharpens, directing a severe divine decree against the leader of the enemy forces. God establishes Himself as the absolute sovereign over all nations, turning His full attention toward delivering justice by punishing and breaking His opponents.

A new and specific prophecy is required at this moment, driven by two distinct perspectives. The primary purpose is to clarify that God's anger is aimed squarely at Gog himself. The other nations that joined him in battle are not inherently guilty of destroying the Land of Israel or causing the exile of the tribes; rather, they face punishment solely because they chose to ally with him [אברבנאל]. Alternatively, this moment marks a transition into a unique revelation. While earlier warnings about Gog were delivered by prophets of the past, a new phase of the conflict is now exposed. This prophecy reveals that after Gog suffers his initial defeat at the borders of the land, he will regain his strength, assemble his armies for a second time, and advance to lay siege to Jerusalem [מלבי״ם].

God issues a direct challenge to the enemy, signaling that He is personally stepping forward to confront him face-to-face [מצודת דוד]. Through this declaration, God informs Gog and Magog that He is the master of all nations and will ultimately shatter them [צאינה וראינה]. Gog is addressed by specific titles to highlight his status as the supreme leader of these hostile kingdoms [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. This direct confrontation carries a clear promise for the battles ahead: God Himself will fight against Gog, render his weapons completely useless, and ensure his absolute downfall upon the mountains of Israel [מלבי״ם, אברבנאל].
