The sudden defeat of foreign enemies on the land of the Israelites marks the end of a long and painful exile. This dramatic victory shifts the balance of world events, leading to a global recognition of God's greatness [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

Within the nation itself, God will make His holy name fully known [מצודת דוד]. He will reveal to the Israelites that their survival and destiny are not governed by the ordinary rules of the world. Instead, His guidance over them is entirely miraculous and providential, elevating them above the standard laws of nature [מלבי״ם].

With this new reality established, God declares that He will no longer allow His name to be profaned or desecrated [מצודת ציון, ביאור שטיינזלץ, מצודת דוד]. The primary approach among commentators is that the prolonged exile and the degraded state of the Israelites serve as a public desecration of God's name.
