However, another perspective views this measurement as a description of the pillars' length and spatial arrangement. In this view, the columns extended horizontally for sixty cubits beyond the gate chambers to enhance the visual majesty of the complex. A variation of this idea proposes that there were indeed exactly sixty separate pillars, each one cubit wide, arranged at equal intervals [מלבי״ם].
