The visionary tour of the Temple complex moves deeper inward as the prophet shifts his focus to the gates of the inner courtyard, starting with the eastern gate. He is guided back into the inner courtyard from the east [מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. This specific return is noted because he had previously stepped outside the courtyard to measure the chambers and the gate's hall, making this a distinct reentry into the inner area [מלבי״ם].
Arriving at the eastern gate marks the beginning of a new phase in the tour. From this starting point, the prophet will be led through all three directions of the inner courtyard to observe each of its three gates [רד״ק, אברבנאל].
As the eastern gate is measured, it becomes clear that its dimensions and structural details are entirely identical to the gates that were already examined. The process of measuring this specific gate is carried out in stages. First, the exterior is measured, and only afterward do they move inside to record the dimensions of the interior portions [מלבי״ם].
