Mephibosheth stands before King David to clear his name, exposing a web of lies that had been spun against him. He directly addresses the false accusations, making it known that his servant, Ziba, had spread malicious gossip and slander to ruin his reputation before the king [מצודת דוד, מצודת ציון, רד״ק, ביאור שטיינזלץ].

Even in the face of such damaging lies, Mephibosheth places his complete trust in the king's judgment. He compares David to an angel of God, an image meant to highlight the king's exceptional wisdom and his sharp ability to cut through deception to separate truth from falsehood [מצודת דוד].

Driven by this absolute faith in David's insight, Mephibosheth leaves the final decision entirely up to the king.
