וְאַתֶּ֗ם כֹּהֲנֵ֤י יְהֹוָה֙ תִּקָּרֵ֔אוּ מְשָׁרְתֵ֣י אֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ יֵאָמֵ֖ר לָכֶ֑ם חֵ֤יל גּוֹיִם֙ תֹּאכֵ֔לוּ וּבִכְבוֹדָ֖ם תִּתְיַמָּֽרוּ׃

In the future, the Israelites will achieve an elevated spiritual and physical state. Freed from the burdens of daily labor, they will dedicate themselves entirely to serving God for the benefit of all humanity, while the other nations of the world provide for their material needs.

This future role is compared to that of priests. Some commentators view this comparison as a symbol of power, leadership, and greatness [רש״י, מצודות]. However, the primary approach among commentators draws a direct parallel to the priests from the tribe of Aaron. Just as these priests do not work the land but are sustained by gifts and tithes from the rest of the nation so they can dedicate their time to the Temple, the Israelites will stand in a similar position relative to the rest of the world. The nations will engage in agricultural work and supply the needs of the Israelites, leaving them free to immerse themselves in Torah, wisdom, and the service of God [אבן עזרא, רד״ק, שד״ל, מלבי״ם, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. This role is not merely an honorary title but involves active, practical service, as the essence of a priest is to be a minister of God [אבן עזרא, מלבי״ם].

As a result of this unique standing, the Israelites will receive the wealth, assets, and property of the nations [רש״י, מצודת ציון]. Beyond performing physical labor, the nations will bring offerings of silver, gold, and other valuable goods. These gifts will serve as the exact equivalent of the tithes that priests traditionally receive [רד״ק, אבן עזרא, שד״ל, מלבי״ם].

Along with this wealth comes great honor. The primary approach among commentators is that the Israelites will be deeply elevated, attaining the greatness and prestige that previously belonged to the other nations [אבן עזרא, רד״ק, מצודות, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Another perspective views this shift as a direct exchange, where the Israelites will step into the position of the nations and inherit their former glory [רש״י, שד״ל]. A third approach suggests a life of indulgence, where the Israelites will be pampered and enjoy immense abundance and worldly delights [רד״ק, שד״ל]. Ultimately, just as a priest is granted special privileges and honors within the community, such as being the first to offer blessings, the Israelites will be granted the highest possible honor, respect, and praise from all the nations of the world [מלבי״ם].
