A truly hidden path exists in a domain entirely untouched by the living world. It is a place so remote and utterly desolate that even the strongest and most terrifying creatures in nature have never reached it due to its extreme emptiness [מצודת דוד].

The animals absent from this isolated realm are characterized by their immense pride, power, and might. While this generally refers to wild and fearsome beasts [מצודות, רלב"ג, מלבי"ם, ביאור שטיינזלץ], some identify these majestic creatures specifically as lions and their young [רש"י, רמב"ן]. In fact, the various terms used to describe these proud beasts are often understood as synonymous names for the fierce lion [רש"י].

These formidable predators have never marched upon this hidden route [מצודת ציון, רלב"ג], nor have they ever managed to pave or forge a trail through such an unforgiving expanse [מלבי"ם]. The sheer isolation of the area ensures it remains completely devoid of their presence. The primary approach among commentators is that these animals simply never passed through this territory at all [רש"י, אבן עזרא, מצודות]. Alternatively, another perspective suggests a focus on the predator's survival, explaining that a lion has never hunted or consumed its prey in this lifeless wasteland [מלבי"ם, ביאור שטיינזלץ].
