Humanity goes to great lengths to uncover the earth's most precious natural treasures, digging deep into the ground and traveling vast distances to secure them. Yet, true wisdom holds an infinitely greater value and cannot be mined or acquired through any similar physical effort [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Because this wisdom is so highly elevated and essential, a natural desire arises to discover where it begins, how one prepares to attain it, and the exact source from which it flows into human reach [מצודת דוד].

The primary approach among commentators is that a deep sense of wonder surrounds the way wisdom travels into our reality. It is well understood that the root of wisdom does not belong to this physical world; rather, it originates within the mind of God in the highest spiritual realms. The true mystery lies in how this profound knowledge descends and reveals itself to humanity [מלבי״ם]. The focus is not merely on the fact that wisdom exists in its high, original state, but on the specific mechanics of how it actually arrives here on earth [מלבי״ם].

The exact starting point of wisdom remains entirely hidden from human understanding. People simply cannot determine the direction from which it emerges, whether it falls from the sky, rises from the earth, or comes from any corner of the globe [רמב״ן]. This total mystery presents a philosophical challenge. Since God freely gave the Torah to the Israelites, one might ask why the source of such wisdom remains completely concealed. At the very least, it would seem logical for this wisdom to be clearly found within the spiritual realm of the angels [אלשיך].

However, commentators draw a clear line between limited knowledge and absolute wisdom. While angels do possess a level of understanding that matches their specific spiritual standing, the pure essence of complete wisdom remains exclusively with God. No created being, whether physical or spiritual, can ever fully grasp it [תקות אנוש].
