The revelation of God's absolute rule over the world shatters human illusions, establishing a new spiritual order that exposes the complete emptiness of foreign powers. When God judges the world, those who serve idols will be struck with intense shame as they realize the forces they trusted hold no real substance [רד״ק, ביאור שטיינזלץ, מאירי]. This humiliation specifically targets those who boastfully praised themselves [מצודת ציון]. These individuals took pride in their idol worship, mistakenly attributing all their personal success to these false powers [רד״ק, מצודת דוד, מאירי].

A clear distinction exists between the physical objects of worship and the spiritual forces they represent. The carved images are merely inanimate objects made of wood or stone. However, the true focus of the worshippers is the higher powers, such as the heavenly hosts and the patron angels of the nations, which these physical statues symbolize [רד״ק, אלשיך]. The idolaters proudly claimed that they were not simply bowing to dead matter, but were actually directing their devotion toward these cosmic forces [אלשיך].

Ultimately, these very higher powers and heavenly hosts will recognize God's absolute authority. Witnessing His judgment and realizing their own insignificance, these cosmic forces will submit to Him [רד״ק, ביאור שטיינזלץ, מצודת דוד, אבן עזרא]. This future submission is considered an absolute, undeniable certainty [רד״ק, מאירי]. Alternatively, this act of surrender may refer to the idol worshippers themselves, who will eventually be forced to bow before God [רד״ק]. The submission of the nations unfolds in a gradual process. The worshippers will not be fully broken by the mere sight of God's revealed presence. Instead, their ultimate humiliation will occur only when they watch with their own eyes as the very heavenly angels and cosmic forces they once trusted surrender and bow before God [אלשיך].
