Esther 6:14Sefaria

In a person's lowest moments, the final opportunity to find a way out is sometimes snatched away. Right before a fateful conversation between a falling man and his advisors can conclude, reality intervenes with dramatic speed, leaving no time to recover and leading directly to his doom. Overwhelmed by sadness as his downfall began, Haman simply forgot to attend the royal banquet on his own. This oversight angered the king, who was forced to wait for him in violation of royal protocol

The sudden arrival of the king's officials cut off Haman's advisors mid-sentence. These advisors were actually quite wise and had a specific plan in mind. They wanted to first break Haman's massive pride by warning him of his inevitable fall, so they could immediately follow up by advising him to beg Mordecai for his life. Because the officials arrived and interrupted them, Haman was left only with feelings of despair and defeat, completely missing the advice that might have saved him

This exact timing was directed by God. Arriving precisely at that moment allowed the officials, including Harbonah, to overhear the conversation and learn about the gallows Haman had prepared for Mordecai [מלבי״ם]. The officials rushed Haman, pushing him forward in a state of panic This unusual speed shows it was a Divine process, as God's actions often unfold much faster than ordinary time [אור חדש]. Being dragged away so abruptly also stripped Haman of the dignity normally given to a royal minister. He was taken away without even having a moment to wash off the dirt that had stuck to him earlier that day [מנות הלוי].

There was also a practical, political reason for this extreme hurry on Esther's part. She feared that if Haman were given any extra time, he might send letters to his sons, who served as senior officials across the provinces, instructing them to launch a rebellion against the king When Haman was brought to the gathering, everything was already fully prepared and waiting for him [מנות הלוי].

It becomes clear why Esther waited for this second banquet to make her move instead of acting during the first. Initially, she was terrified of Haman's immense power, especially since she had not yet seen a clear sign from God that the Jews' fasting had been accepted. However, once Haman's downfall began, her fear vanished, and she was finally ready to act [אבן עזרא]. Ultimately, the king's officials acted as agents of Divine providence, leading Haman straight to his death. Through a banquet of wine, an act that had previously brought death and impurity into the world, the fate of Haman, a descendant of Amalek, was sealed. This moment served to correct the historical sin of King Saul, who had disastrously allowed the Amalekite king Agag to live [שלום אסתר].
